I am Derek: and I Beat autism: A Mothers Story from her sons diagnosis to his return
This book is not fictional; is the real-life story of a boy who was diagnosed with autism.
Autism, or autism spectrum, is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent verbal and nonverbal communication difficulties at the social level. We do not know the origin of autism, or how to treat it, although there are several theories. We can, however, state that among those who recognized autism, accepted it, and decided to do something about this condition despite its ominous diagnosis (which for many parents carries a "label" or "stigma"), some were able to see some progress, while others even saw their children cured.
These parents broke down barriers, tore down walls, and "defeated" autism.
I invite you to read this book to help you validate your decisions and encourage you to act like them. There are no guarantees, but it is worth trying.
